Announcing the release of Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV) 3.1 on Dell PowerEdge servers

Red Hat announced the release of Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV) 3.1, the first major update to its enterprise virtualization platform RHEV 3.0.

Some of the features in RHEV 3.1 include,

  • Increased hypervisor support for the latest Intel & AMD x86 processors
  • RHEV can now support up to 160 logical CPUs and  up to 2 terabytes of memory
  • Supports creation of live snapshots and clones of running virtual machines
  • Integrated dashboard that provides wide range of reports at the datacenter, cluster, host, and virtual-machine level
  • Python SDK (software development kit) to help write scripts
  • And, in technical preview mode supports storage migration for virtual machines, in which the backup disk image of a running VM can be moved to different storage devices without stopping the running virtual machine

RHEV 3.1 is validated and offered on all supported Dell PowerEdge servers including the latest Dell PowerEdge 12th generation serversPlease refer the important information guide for the complete list of issues fixed in RHEV 3.1 on Dell PowerEdge servers.

Dell OpenManage Server Administrator (OMSA) is not supported on RHEV 3 hypervisors. For customers looking for OpenManage Server Administrator support in RHEV 3 environment, RHEL 6.3 can be used as a host. Please refer the Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization documentation for more information on using RHEL 6 as a host.
