We recently posted a new maintenance release – AppAssure 5.3.7. This release doesn’t bring any new functionality, but it does resolve several issues. I'm attaching release notes to this blog post, as we're also consolidating the AppAssure web presence this week, and I want to be sure you're able to get to them.

In the spirit of complete transparency, and helping y’all plan your upgrades, we’d like to also make a pre-announcement: in the very near future, we will release the long-awaited AppAssure 5.4. This release will contain numerous enhancements, fixes and performance improvements. Due to some of the changes in 5.4.1, you will not be able to downgrade from 5.4.1 to a previous version. Both versions (5.3.7 and 5.4.1) will require an update of the Core.

Here’s what we advise:

  • Upgrade prior core versions to 5.3.7:
    • You require one or more of the resolved issues listed in the 5.3.7 release notes immediately
    • You need more time to prepare for the one-way migration to AppAssure 5.4.1, Dell recommends upgrading prior core versions to this release.
  • Wait for AppAssure 5.4.1:
    • You are not in critical need of a resolved listed in the 5.3.7 release notes
    • You do not require the ability to revert to a previous version of AppAssure

Since we’re teasing you about AppAssure 5.4.1, here’s some of the new functionality you can expect:

  • Overall performance improvements, including significantly faster recovery point load times, faster seed drive creation, and faster GUI.
  • Numerous Replication enhancements: Multi-target (A to B and A to C) replication, Multi-hop (A to B then to C) replication, throttling and scheduling for improved network bandwidth and operations management
  • Reporting enhancements: Report scheduling and emailing of reports.
  • New Platform Support: Support for Windows Server 2012 R2, UEFI support (Server 2012 and Windows 8 environments).

We are sorry to release these so close together, but we thought this would give you the power to choose the best upgrade path for your environment. Do you still have questions? Post a comment on this thread, we’ll help you work through it. Thanks for your patience!
